Latest News

Hey Gentlefans,
Exciting news! Today we're releasing details of our new single which is out on 27th April.
We're going old school and releasing a double A side - Something You Can't Regret and I'm Not Leaving (now playing in the media player).
For those that have been fans for a while, and have our self release album, you'll be very familiar with I'm Not Leaving and you're probably wondering how it can now be a single.
Well... when we recorded the new album, we decided that if this was going to be an album for the big wide world and radio and all that, then I'm Not Leaving was just too good to be left behind, so we've recorded a new version which we think has a certain je ne sais quoi over the original and now we're giving it to the world in all it's pop glory.
At the same time, we all felt it was important to show that very same world that we also like to rock like the proverbial mother and so Something You Can't Regret rears its riff-ilicious head.
We'll be in touch soon with info on more iTunes exclusives, acoustic versions and remixes. In the meantime, we're also offering signed, physical versions again via Townsend Records so you can pre-order now.
Don't forget to check out our gig info; Great gigs coming up in Nottingham, Bristol, London and Cambridge to name but a few!
Love,
The Gentlemen

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Gentlefriends!
We had a blinder of a weekend just before Christmas, which Josh has documented in Video form. I will try to rationalise the rather confusing and sometimes disturbing images.
Friday night we played in Huddersfield University as part of their Friday night celebrations, which was one of the most fun gigs we've ever had. Some brilliant crowd moments actually had us laughing so hard we had to delay a song. That's another story for another time. The next day we got up very early and drove through some amazing frozen Peak District to fly to Holland in order to headline a World Vision AIDS event. It was a real privilege to be a part of something so global and worthwhile.
The next morning we caught an early flight to Manchester Airport and drove straight back to the Leadmill to film the music Video for our new single. This was both brilliant and exhausting. We must have played the same song sixty plus times but the Crowd who won the competition to be in the video was exceptionally good. Our congratulations to them, and our thanks also to the excellent film crew. Then the final task was to play our first hometown gig in months. It was the most outstanding experience of all the Sheffield gigs we've played so far.
Thank you to all of the people who turned up to make it a night to remember!

Barnstaple Winter Festival

Hey there Gentlefans!
I should tell you on behalf of the rest of The Gentlemen a little bit about our very Christmassy gig in Barnstaple, Devon. We were invited to play alongside The Saturdays for their ‘turning on the Christmas lights’ event.
One of the highlights of the day was making a card for the girls, which you can see in the video blog. They were very nice and smiley but a little cold as the gig was outside. Josh got a little over familiar with the video camera on this trip and features heavily at the expense of the rest of us. Yet it is still exciting enough to make your head asplode! My personal vendetta against health and safety found new fervour as you can imagine when faced with city centre security officials telling me I had to enter the back stage area ‘the proper way’.
"As opposed to the what?" I wondered, "The improper way?" Apparently some gaps in the security fence were officially sanctioned entrances and others were embarrassing oversights. High visibility vests do strange things to men.
However, the show was brilliant and the people of Barnstaple turned out in force. Despite the strong winds and pouring rain over 10,000 people braved the weather and a good time was had by all!

From Europe

My dearest loved ones,
I write to you from Holland - looking forward to the video shoot tomorrow, but I'm not writing in the present tense because I'm writing about a gig in London for some Swedes and one in Scotland for Neon Ravers. We played first in London and then St Andrews Uni, Fife and enjoyed both gigs immensely. The last time we were in London was at The Astoria so we were very excited to be returning for another big Gentlemen show.
The event in London was run by a very cool Australian/Swedish promoter, which would explain the huge number of Swedish guys and gals who flew over especially for the gig. They turned out to be the most raucous crowd we've ever played to, and a highlight of the show (although it's not very cool to admit) was the Swedish sweets! So an especially BIG thank you to everyone who made the trip over to see us. :)
Then in St Andrews we stayed in the ‘Very Posh Hotel’ on the golf course. The gig was a massive outdoor rave where we performed alongside Bodyrox and Utah Saints to a load of lads and lasses dressed up in luminous paint and waving glow sticks.
The two gigs saw the highest level of dancing we've ever seen within any 48 hour period. SUPERB! Josh and I shared our hearts with one another. Sean learned the power of his dancing shoes and Joel couldn't keep his eyes off the lasers. In short, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely!
Ta ta for now!

Belgium Expedition

Dear Gentlepeople,
I'm writing to you fresh (well, actually rather tired) from a quick trip to headline a music festival in Belgium. I'm going to try and tell you a bit about our trip. Check out the footage from the trip. Check out the footage from the trip.
Okay, first of all the food. I've noticed over the past few months as we've spent more and more time away from our homes that there's been a growing obsession with the food we get on tour. Good food can lift your spirits and prepare you for all eventualities. Bad food however, can make you feel unhealthy and unhappy. I guess that's why we're so happy and grateful when someone feeds us a good meal before we go on stage! This trip was a real highlight for food. Our hosts, Luc and Agnes had prepared a true 'midnight feast' for us when we arrived in their home. There were cheeses, breads, cured meats and ale - all Belgian and all local!
As the good food continued the next day, we went to the festival to get settled in. After the sound-check we had a six hour wait until our performance so we got taken to the local town for a guided tour. There were lots of cyclists taking advantage of Belgium's flatness; lots of breweries and a church that's foundations were laid on top of cow skins!?
We really enjoyed the show at the festival and we were surprised again that in a country that we'd never played in before, our music had gone before us and people were singing our songs with us. Fantastic!
And so, as soon as it had all begun, it was time to get back on the plane to Manchester and leave Belgium, with all its fine foods and people, behind.
Sean

The Coke Bottle Chronicles

Hey guys, here's a little bit of scrawl to accompany the video Josh put together:
We played Staffordshire University recently which was a hoot! There is a lot of messing around in this video and not a lot of us playing! Mainly because it would be a bit naughty to video ourselves during a gig! We very much enjoyed the gig and the guys dancing and singing along, which is always nice when you play somewhere for the first time! We have been making new friends as well, so hello to Andy, Mark and Alice! We also enjoyed the lovely coke bottles they provided, such a nice touch to drink from a glass bottle - takes one back to the days of "Yes sir," and "Thank you ma'am," (stares wistfully into the middle distance...).
Anyways, we had a pleasurable but slightly lost journey down but arrived in time to meet the crew before the sound check. We started writing a song during the sound check which hasn't happened before but it probably will become the norm as we are getting busier and busier...
Click here to watch the Staffordshire University Vlog. Speaking of which, we're excitedly making plans for the new album's artwork so keep your eyes peeled for more developments! We've been listening intently to the mix of the album, and are very happy with what we've come out of the studio with! Also we're making new plans for a music video which will be shot on location in The Leadmill this November, fancy being in it…?Well guys, till next time!

Holland... Underwear, Lakes, Music!

Dear fans of The Gentlemen,
We're trying to get into the habit of updating you every two weeks via a blog and video blog or as the kids say "vlog". We've got a bit of a backlog so there will be more coming in the next few weeks.
"Luek je te ontmoeten!" or as we say in English, "Nice to meet you!"
Guys, it's Nicholas here writing on behalf of The Gentlemen. I'm writing to tell you about what we got up to in Holland recently as well as to notify you about a short video that is now available on our Facebook page.
Having played in Germany, Belgium, Ireland and The Netherlands over the past 12 months; a highlight for me was definitely the Flevo Festival in Holland! We were treated like royalty and the people involved were great, so let me extend a big thank you to everyone both seen and unseen.
During the event we did quite a few interviews for national radio, TV and magazines. Most of them were really fun but a couple were just awful. I've definitely learned a thing or two and I'll probably be more prepared in the future!
We played for an hour on the main stage, which was great. We were welcomed so warmly, probably in part due to last year's performance at the same festival. The crowd was bigger this year but as it was after sunset it was hard to see them all until the lights went up. At the end of the set Joel launched himself off his kit and broke some of it as well as injuring his hand in the process. We also tried out a few new songs that had only just been recorded for the album a few days earlier, which was very cool. :)
It was great to meet the other artists and share stories. Of course Sean was taking good photos and videos as well as collecting souvenirs. We went for a swim around the lake in our underwear, which was funny. I also ended up in the lake in my clothes after two lads grabbed me following our signing session. I didn't fully understand it at the time but I've managed to convince myself it's because they thought I was really cool…?
Josh instinctively gravitated to the Dutch ladies in his photojournalism. I think it is probably worth mentioning that Dutch ladies are pretty incredible. We learned a few Dutch words whilst we were out there and we put them into a song before we went onstage. I think it's included in the blog but I could be wrong.
Well I think that's about enough from me. We thank you for taking the time to check us out. Enjoy the vlog!
Nicholas
